Our plan from day one was to provide you all with regular updates on our journey to open the Special When Lit: Pinball Electo-cade.
From early concepts through construction and all the way up to our grand opening, we will be documenting, photographing, and videoing all the changes this great space will go through. Check back early and often for the latest!
05/19/23 - Had a site visit today with a vendor to go over some work that we will need to have done prior to opening but post construction and saw that some building materials have been brought in. Definitely a step in the right direction.
Our interior signage is in the process of being manufactured. Hope to get some nice shots once they're completed. Stay tuned..
05/12/23 - Got confirmation that our plans have been completed and submitted to the city for building permits. Hopefully the turnaround for the plan review and the issuing of the permits do not take too long. At this point we are anticipating up to 60 days.
04/28/23 - Received an update from the architect. The MEP and structural plans are still in process but getting close to completion. He anticipates being able to submit for building permits this next week. Fingers crossed..
Also, this last week we finalized our interior signage that will go on the wall above the back bar and next to our front window. Construction of these should now be underway. Cannot wait to see the finished signs in person. These are going to be big!
04/21/23 - Had a call with the contractor today to discuss the results of our test. We are definitely moving towards 2' x 2' LED panel lights on a dimmer switch over the gaming/bar area and hallway. This will enable us to work around the sprinkler system heads and move the lighting away from the pinball machines on each wall. We also eliminated lighting down the middle over the arcade games. We will maintain enough even lighting that you will still be able to see your ball and have a pleasurable gaming experience. Our proposed lighting layout is below..
04/16/23 - Today we took a game over to our location to see what kind of glare we would get on the glass underneath the current lighting. We placed the game in different spots along the wall to see how much reflection we would get. First, we placed the game in between two sets of lights. As you can see from the first picture the game was picking up significant glare in the center of the playfield. When we moved the game down a couple of feet closer to one of the lights, we got major glare as seen in the second picture. We determined that the sample 2' x 4' LED panel light even on the lowest brightness setting was not going to be dark enough. We think smaller 2' x 2' LED panel lights moved further away from the walls and on a dimmer switch will ensure our guests get the best possible gaming experience with little to no glare.
04/14/23 - Had an on-site meeting with the contractor today to discuss our lighting concerns and different options. He gave us a 2' x 4' LED panel light sample that we could take with us to check out the different brightness levels available without using a dimmer switch. It was also suggested that we bring in one of our games to see what kind of glare we would get off of the current lighting. Thought that was a great idea.
Since the demolition removed all the floor cover, the markings for our layout were also removed. They were nice enough to go back and re-tape the layout for us. We also found out the area that was dug up was in fact due to the locating of pluming and also to make way for our grease trap. Pretty exciting stuff..
04/07/23 - More demolition happened these last two weeks. Our space is pretty well cleaned up except for the pit that was being dug out. This is back in the kitchen area near where our water heater will go so it most likely has something to do with plumbing or drainage. Also, the old McCann's chocolate counter by the front doors was removed.
As far as the plans go, we received a draft of the electrical sets from the architect. There is some discussion around dimmable LED panel lights for over our gaming space. We want to ensure our guests have a positive gaming experience. I for one have been to different establishments where the lighting was either too dark or the games had overhead glare on the glass. For me, this killed the experience. Mechanical and plumbing plans are also in the works but we have not had visibility to those yet.
04/03/23 - Received our concept proof back from Advanced Electric Signs, Inc. This is for our two interior signs that will go on the wall behind the bar and next to the front window. Each of these will be 4' x 3' light boxes backlit with LED's. They will also have dimmer switches on them so they can be adjusted.
